Broken or Lost Tooth

Accidents happen, no matter how much we try to prevent them. Whatever the cause of tooth breakage or loss, to break or lose a tooth, don’t worry—Dupont Family Dentistry can help. There are emergency appointments available during and in some cases after business hours, and we offer several different options to restore and replace teeth.

For the best chance to save a knocked-out tooth, here are a few basic steps:

  • Handle the tooth by the crown, not the root.
  • Rinse tooth with water. Do not use soap, scrub the tooth, or wrap it in a towel.
  • Reposition the tooth in the socket if possible and try to keep it in place.
  • If you are unable to hold the tooth in your mouth, keep it moist in milk.
  • Contact us as soon as you can so we can help!

Infection

If you suspect you have an infection of the teeth or gums, it is imperative that you get in touch with us as soon as you can. A dental infection will not clear on its own, and the longer you postpone contact, the more difficult and expensive it will be to treat—and the more likely the possibility that infection could spread to other parts of your mouth or even the rest of your body.

Some signs and symptoms of dental infection are:

  • Pain and sensitivity
  • Bleeding gums
  • Pus coming from the gums
  • Bad breath or taste in the mouth

If you are experiencing any of the signs of an oral infection, or are experiencing a dental emergency, please don’t hesitate to contact us at Dupont Family Dentistry today to schedule an appointment with Dr. Diehl and Dr. Hemphill. We’ll do everything we can to get you in as soon as possible.
